Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of retrograde lacrimal duct support implanted with a nasal endoscope. Methods This was a restrospective case-series study. During a 30-month period (Dec 2007-June 2010), 93 cases (101 eyes) of nasolacrimal duct obstruction underwent retrograde lacrimal duct stent placement with the help of a nasal endoscope to open obstructed lacrimal passages. The patients were assessed and grouped according the procedure′s level of effectiveness. Results Lacrimal duct support was implanted successfully in all patients. The follow-up period lasted for 6-24 months. The procedure was markedly effective in 83 eyes (82%), effective in 14 eyes (14%), and not effective in 4 eyes (4%). Conclusion The use of lacrimal duct support can shorten surgical procedures and significantly improve the success rate and long-term clinical outcomes.
