Objective To analyze the clinical application of trabecular tissue as corneal tissue replacement for ocular rupture and corneal penetrating injury. Methods It was a retrospective study.Four patients (6 eyes) with corneal penetrating injury involving the loss of corneal tissue were treated by plugging the injury with trabecular tissue preserved by cryopreservation with glycerol and then performing debridement and wallet-style suturing. These procedures can be preliminary steps if a 2-stage operation is necessary. Results During the follow-up period, trabecular tissue gradually became transparent, fusing tightly with the cornea, and visual acuity improved. There were no severe complications when the dermal sutures were removed. Conclusion Trabecular tissue is similar in structure to corneal tissue so it can be used as a replacement of corneal tissue. And this technique can set the groundwork for a 2-stage operation (such as penetrating keratoplasty, vitrectomy, cataract extraction).
