Abstract Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) is one of the matrix metalloproteinase proteins. Its abnormal expression has been proven to be related to the occurrence and development of various ophthalmic diseases in recent years. We summarize the expression and detection of MMP-2 in the eye and the effects of MMP-2 in ophthalmic diseases.
