Prompt surgery and skilled operational techniques have dramtically improved the visual outcome of infants with congenital cataract, but the prognosis depends more upon efficient and effective optical correction. Because of particular advantages on high optical quality for super-high hyperopia and less complications, contact lens has been the first option considered for the infantile aphakia in developed countries, however, it has not been used extensively in China where apakic glasses are commonest. This review highlights the ocular characteristics of infantile aphakia and rencent clinical studies on contact lens management of infantile aphakia after congenital cataract surgery in the hope that it will provide references for the best regimen of infantile aphakia.
