China has the greatest population of individuals with myopia in the world. This ocular disorder has a significant impact not only on individuals and families, but also on the country. A national effort to combat myopia has been officially launched. Because myopia is caused by multiple factors with very complex pathogenesis, the strategy of the combat must be based on a comprehensive picture, and not some one-sided viewpoints. The authors intend to start with the overall goal of the combat against myopia, and then, based on the current understanding, review the clinical classification and the findings from the latest research. Using this approach, we will be able to make clinically significance progress towards the prevention and treatment of adolescent myopia. With this effort, the authors aim to provide some ideas to peer researchers.
