Abstract Over the last decade, simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET) has attracted more and more attention of scholars due to its small amount of harvest, no need for vitro-culture, and its excellent clinical effcacy. It is expected to become an ideal procedure for limbal stem cell defciency. However, only a few hospitals in China have performed it. This paper reviewed the developments of SLET at home and abroad from the aspects of surgical procedures, classifcation, clinical application, mechanism of action, which provides the theoretical guidance for Chinese scholars to further carry out clinical research on SLET.
