Abstract Cytokines, which known as a "language between cells", are involved in the development of various eye diseases. The detection of cytokines plays an increasingly important role in the study of the molecular mechanism of eye disease pathogenesis, the construction of clinical guidelines and expert consensus, and the development of novel targeted therapies. With the aim of accurate and personalized medicine in ophthalmology, this article presents the application and signifcance of cytokine detection in the diagnosis and therapy of various eye diseases, as well as the advances in several molecular targeted therapies.
