Clinical research is a multidisciplinarye collaborative activity that involves a particular person or group of patients, is based in a health delivery organization, and intends to investigate the diagnosis, therapy, prognosis, and etiology of human diseases. China is rich in the disease resources, however, the corresponding researches are far behind that in developed countries. On the one hand, we paid insufficient attention on clinical research. On the other hand, we do not have enough well-established clinical research platforms to support the doctors/investigators. The centralized clinical research platform, sharing the facilities, spaces, manpower, databases, experiences, and regulations, is a new model for clinical research. Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University set up a clinical and epidemiological research center in 2013, by now, 64 projects are underway or completed. Sixty percent of the projects are prospectively designed, and the majority are longitudinal studies and with a large sample sizes. With the limited experience, we deem that the centralized clinical research center is an effective and practical model for clinical research in China.
