Objective To analyze by swept-source optical coherence tomography the interocular symmetry of anterior chamber structures in a normal Chinese population. Methods In a destriptive study, both eyes from 360 people were enrolled. Age, gender, bilateral axial length (AL), intraocular pressure (IOP), corneal volume (CV), iris volume (IV), pupil diameter (PD), anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber depth (ACD), horizontal anterior chamber width (ACWH), and vertical anterior chamber width (ACWV) were recorded. Interocular differences for each parameter were calculated. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the correlation among parameters, and paired t-tests were used to compare the differences in the parameters between right and left eyes. Results The differences in AL (P=0.768), IOP (P=0.274), CV (P=0.809), IV (P=0.215), PD (P=0.098), ACV (P=0.085), ACD (P=0.374), ACWH (P=0.422), and ACWV (P=0.142) were not statistically significant between the right and the left eyes. The value △CV (mm3) was 0.09±6.93(-22.57-18.65), △IV (mm3) was 0.11±1.63(-6.47-9.15), △PD (mm) was -0.05±0.52(-1.61-2.01), △ACV (mm3) was 0.66±7.25(-28.64-55.17), △ACD (mm) was 0.00±0.11(-1.01-0.53), △ACWH (mm) was 0.01±0.20(-0.66-0.57), and △ACWV (mm) was 0.03±0.26(-1.76-0.85). As age increased, both △CV (r=-0.182, P=0.001) and △ACD (r=-0.111, P=0.038) decreased. Conclusion There is a significant interocular symmetry of anterior chamber structures in normal subjects.
