Abstract Exosomes are small vesicular bodies secreted by various types of living cells, which extensively exist in all kinds of body fluids such as blood, urine, saliva, or amniotic fluid. Exosomes participate in numerous biological processes, including cell-cell communication, signal transduction, genetical material transportation and modulation of immune response. Researches in eye have also been gradually carried out in recent years. This review summaries the basic characteristics, biological functions and conclusions in studies of ocular diseases.
