Juvenile idiopathic arthritis associated uveitis(JIAU) is one of the most common categories of pediatric uveitis. The cataract development is a most frequent complication in JIAU which will result in significant visual disability and cause damage to both family and society. Historically, the risk of secondary severe complications (posterior capsular opacification, extensive posterior synechiae, glaucoma, hypotony and phthisis bulbi) have played an important role in failure of JIAU-cataracts. Hence, various factors should be taken into consideration when deciding on surgical management of cataracts, including uveitis diagnosis, timing of surgery, control of perioperative inflammation and proper operative approaches. These above elements will contribute to improve cataract surgery outcomes in patients with JIAU.
